On June 13, the Portland Cement Association (PCA) hosted representatives from government, industry and academia at its headquarters in Washington, D.C., for an intensive one-day session aimed at filling the current gap in low-carbon cement and concrete guidance.
The definition of “low carbon” is subjective and lacks consideration for either upstream and downstream impacts or short-term and long-term strength, durability and resiliency concerns.
PCA said it is taking the lead in this effort as another part of an ongoing commitment to achieve carbon neutrality. “While the gap won’t be filled in one day, this initial meeting was a critical first step for stakeholders across our entire value chain,” said the association.
